Varsity Coaches

	Varsity Head Coach: Steve Pinkston Coach Pinkston has been coaching for 19 years. His career as a coach has included stints at Simi Valley HS (Offensive Coordinator), Hoover HS (Defensive Coordinator), Glendale College (Offensive Line Coach), Glendale HS (Head Coach), Vasquez HS (Offensive Coordinator), and is going into his third year as the Head Coach at Golden Valley. Coach Pinkston graduated from CSU Northridge with a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology and from the U.S. Sports Academy with a Master's Degree in Sport Sciences. He played quarterback at Simi Valley High School, Tight End at Moorpark College, and at the semi-pro level as a quarterback with the California Dolphins. Coach Pinkston was also the head track and field coach at Simi Valley HS and Hoover HS. He also coached baseball, softball and basketball at Vasquez HS, where he was also the school's principal for seven years. Awards: Ventura County Coach Of The Year Email:
	Varsity Defensive Coordinator: Mark Chester Coach Chester has been coaching for 27 years with positions in Texas, Minnesota and Florida. This will be Coach Chester's third year as the Defensive Coordinator. Coach Chester was born in Michigan and was a member of the 1974 Michigan State Championship Baseball Team. Coach Chester graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Email:
	Varsity Offensive Line Coach: Mansur Ivie Coach Ivie was born in Connecticut and has several years of playing experience. Coach Ivie played on three CIF quarter-finalist team at Vasquez High School, where he played for Coach Pinkston. This will be Coach Ivie's third year as a Grizzly.
	Varsity Defensive Backs Coach: Ty Gordon Coach Gordon returns to our staff after taking a year off. He will be coaching the defensive backs and coordinating the JV defense. Coach Gordon played football at Canyon High School and then attended Mesa Junior College and COC./p>
	Varsity Running Backs Coach: Shaun Kelso Coach Kelso, in his 4th year at GV, will be working with the Varsity and JV running backs this year. Coach Kelso played high school football at Canyon and earned All SCV Honors.
	Varsity Defensive Line Coach: Johnny Espinosa Coach Espinoza is in his second year with the Grizzlies; he joins the Varsity staff to assist with the defense. Coach Espinosa played his high school football at Canyon High School.
	Defensive Backs/Special Teams Coach: Garrett Skelton Coach Skelton is one year removed from California State University Fullerton where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training. Prior to his graduation coach Skelton interned at the local Junior College, Fullerton Junior College, where he worked as a student trainer for all mainstream sports including Football. This past year in addition to working with the secondary coach Skelton also devotes his time to coaching athletes at Velocity Sports Performance. Garrett is a member of the NSCA, CPR certified, and Hart district certified coach.
	Quarterbacks/Receivers Coach: Don Tabak Coach Tabak is in his first year as a Grizzly coach. He is assisting with the quarterbacks and receivers. Coach Tabak has coached in the valley for several years both at the youth high school level. Coach Tabak's son is currently playing at Portland State.
	Linebackers Coach: Hugh Thorne Coach Thorne is a first year assistant on the GVHS staff. Coach Thorne was a three sport athlete in high school; he attended UC Berkeley where he was a starting pitcher and outfielder. He graduated from Cal with a degree in Political Economies of Industrial Societies.
	Defensive Line Coach: Casey Gordon Coach Gordon played football at Canyon High School and coached at Canyon before coming to GVHS, where he has coached for the past three years.

Junior Varsity Coaches

The GVHS football program concept unifies players and coaches at all levels into a single program, at least to the degree possible. To the junior varsity, this means that their coaches are also the varsity coaches. All of the varsity coaches retain their role for the junior varsity teams, except that the roles change for those coaches that are shown below.

Head Coach: Mansur Ivie

Coach Ivie was born in Connecticut and has several years of playing experience. Coach Ivie played on three CIF quarter-finalist team at Vasquez High School, where he played for Coach Pinkston.

This will be Coach Ivie's third year as a Grizzly.

Defensive Coordinator: Ty Gordon

Coach Gordon returns to our staff after taking a year off. He will be coaching the defensive backs and coordinating the JV defense.

Coach Gordon played football at Canyon High School and then attended Mesa Junior College and COC.

Freshmen Coaches

	Head Coach: Robert Fisher Coach Fisher is in his third year at Golden Valley. He teaches History on campus. He has spent two years teaching and coaching at Agoura High School. Before that he coached at Royal High School in Simi Valley. He graduated from Cal Lutheran University where he played wide receiver.
	Freshman Defensive Coordinator: John Quam Coach Quam comes back to us this year as a Social Science teacher and as a freshman coach. Coach Quam previously coached at Canyon High School.
	Freshman Assistant Coach: Zach Murray Coach Murray has come a board the Golden Valley staff as a both a coach and a teacher. Coach Murray has been coaching in the Antelope Valley for the past few years and now joins our freshman staff to work with wide receivers and defensive linemen.
	Freshman Assistant Coach: Javier Salazar Coach Salazar joins the coaching staff this year after being a Grizzly player for the past three years. He will be assisting on the freshman staff and working with the receivers, running backs, and defensive backs.
	Freshman Assistant Coach: Wendell Keller
	Freshman Assistant Coach: Ivan Lozano Coach Lozano will be assisting on the freshman staff and working with the receivers, kickers, and defensive backs.
